Investigators seized numerous items related to gambling but made no arrests Thursday afternoon while executing a search warrant at Chadbourne Gold, 2821 N. Chadbourne St., according to a news release from the San Angelo Police Department.
The warrant, issued by state district Judge Ben Woodward, authorized authorities to search the location for evidence that the business was in violation of state law regarding Gambling Promotion, Keeping a Gambling Place, Possession of Gambling Devices, Equipment, or Paraphernalia, and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity.
The operation occurred about 1:45 p.m., involving members of the San Angelo Police Department’s Street Crimes Division, Texas Department of Public Safety and the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office.
Twenty-one establishments in San Angelo and Tom Green County were issued cease-and-desist notices in August after being identified as businesses “committing illegal gambling acts,” according to SAPD.
The release says law enforcement officers will continue to execute such operations as needed, saying “the welfare and safety of the citizens of San Angelo and Tom Green County is paramount, and allowing the illegal gambling operations to continue is a threat to the communities where these businesses operate.”
